In the movie it is the same vehicle. I think they have different filming locations: Africa Europe |

This car actually constantly changes from 53 to 15 and vice versa during the film. |

Ford Germany entered 3 works Capri 2300 GT on 1970 East African Safari, numbers 3, 15 and 25 - all retired. Main looks genuine EAS footage and livery (and works registration?), but I can't race a #55 Capri on any EAS. Some thumbs have disappeared, but I would think Capris with Minilites would be genuine EAS footage, but Rostyles mean filming lookalikes. |

Most probable a Ford-owned car, when it has a K-plate (Köln). So the Capri on the main pic seems to be a private owned one. |

On a 2nd look, main does not have the unusual headlights on the works entries as /vehicle_103276-Ford-Capri-1970.html , so as there was no #55 Capri EAS entry (works or private), this is a - fairly good - filming lookalike which never went anywhere near Africa. |

Badged as LHD. Don't know why... |

maybe the race has both RHD and LHD cars .. another question.. last thumb.. are they pushing or pulling it ? |

Maybe a safety instruction in case of crash etc, or a warning for other road traffic in these RHD countries to expect the unexpected. |

that's what i'm thinking too |

My wife grew up in Kenya, they drive on the left, so who in their right mind would imagine a left hand drive car as made for EAK? Just a further example of what a total waste of time made for is when applied without due consideration. Not only that, it has a German plate. -- Last edit: 2020-09-09 17:52:14 |

They are pulling the hovercraft out of a dangerous river... |

Please remove “made for” — it wasn’t. |

@ johnfromstaff, Then your wife should know the Safari Rally. It is the biggest and most traditional sports event of Kenya since 1953. Local hero Robin Hillyar won the event in 1969 in a works Ford 20M RS with German Köln reg plate K-LS 521. So of course Ford would return in 1970 again, this time with 3 Ford Capri, all on German K- plates and all LHD. What is so unrealistic about it? It is an event that brings Kenya to international fame, even counting to the World Championship in most years since 1973. @ Alessandro58 and Baube. Indeed as many of the rally cars are LHD (often used on other rallies in other countries too), but the norm in Kenya is RHD, the LHD cars have this LHD warning on the back. The film used many original scenes from the official Safari Rally 1970, pretending this was the event the Beetle competed in. However in the real rally both numbers 53 and 55 were on private Ford Cortinas, so the Capri with that entry number is not from the event. |
