Talbot was bought, as was Sunbeam, by Rootes during 1935. The Sunbeam designs were scrapped immediately but the Talbot designs ran on in production until 1938. I'm not arguing against the ID provided, but wondering how it was that such a thing was still being put newly into service ten years after the introduction of what was a pretty retro design when it was new, then running it on until at least the date of the filming, when the design would have been 20 years old. There are also interesting detail differences in the coachwork, maybe representing differing uses for the vehicle. -- Last edit: 2017-05-24 11:09:48 |

Noverber 1930 The L.C.C' .s Latest Ambulance Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" "So far as the body is concerned, the new pattern is not vastly different from earlier examples which have been employed by the Metropolitan .Asylums Board, but for the new vehicle the Talbot.six-cylinder chassis is employed, a feature being, the double-reduction rear axle, which enables a low loading line" edit: However comparing the movie's example with the picture in CM the headlights do appear smaller (and lower?) a later revision possibly. Also the body maker has not be found only the chassis' manufacture is mentioned as 'Clement-Talbot' or 'Talbot' ![]() edit: The latest (or last) reference I can find is the purchase of these Talbot L.C.C.-type ambulances in 1938 by Middlesex and Brighton local authorities. -- Last edit: 2017-05-24 12:45:52 |

Talbot Ambulance models identified in November 1937 as AY 75 17.9 h.p. six=cylinder engine pre-selector g/box - Standard Talbot Ambulance AY 95 20.9 h.p. six-cylinder engine Syncomesh g/box - Middlesbrough Ambulance http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/5th-november-1937/60/talbot (no pictures found to date). Because of the visible differencess in the movie's ambulance and until more can be determined this is probably a standard LCC ambulance so AY 75 model name. |

These engines appear to be various sizes of the old Talbot six cylinder unit dating from 1926. An eighteen RAC horsepower engine tugging two tons of ambulance using a preselector gearbox wouldn't have been much good to the emergency patient! http://www.simoncars.co.uk/talbot/talbot75.html -- Last edit: 2017-05-26 16:53:20 |
