As far as I can tell the car is still owned and driven by the same guy, Pete Chapouris. Of Pete and Jakes, and So-Cal Speed Shop. http://www.peteandjakes.com/cars/kid.htm http://www.so-calspeedshop.com/profiles/pete.html |

There is a Franklin Mint edition of this car in 1:24 scale. It appears they have the wrong wheels and exhaust on the model. My question is has this car been changed or is the Franklin Mint car wrong? |

I think you're thinking of the Danbury Mint...I know they claim to do the "first and only licensed replica" of the California Kid, and their version matches the below picture: ![]() Like many famous custom hot rods, I believe the car has undergone near constant revision, maintaining only the deep blue paint (yes, it's blue) and flame job. |

In one scene there's a close-up of its engine - the real engine wasn't '50s-looking enough so they inserted a close-up of the engine from the American Graffiti '32 Ford with a cover over the intake scoops. |

The '34 three-window is owned by Jerry and Peggy Slover of Pete & Jake's store at 401 Legend Lane, Peculiar, MO. It and it's sister, Jake's yellow coupe have logged over a quarter of a million miles going to various shows throughout the Country. Here's a link to the site: http://www.peteandjakes.com .. I have lusted after the California Kid for over half of my life, ever since watching the movie on TV in it's very first showing, way back in '74 (I was a mere "child" of 28 when I first saw the movie - yes, I'm 67 and I'd still give anything to own the coupe ..) |
