The 1970s were wonderful - you could have a tractor unit with SNB 431J plates and attach a trailer with DBF 718H plates (with a big tracked thing on the bed), and nobody gave a toss. No trace on record now of either plate, but SNB 431J googles a couple of hits as a Scammell Crusader seen on the cover of a C&W LP "Rye Whiskey Road Band, from the Southampton-Portsmouth area, used a local Scammell-enthusiastic haulier from Botley for this outrageous album sleeve (White Line Fever). I picked it up for 50p in about 1999 on the strength of the cover. ...... SAR 457J and SNB 431J are the two at the front. The Scammell with the different grill had a Detroit in but so did others with Detroits so I am not sure why but the 8x4 Sampson had that grill as well also the Scammell badge is at the bottom and it has 4 headlamps instead of two square ones. The reg of this one is SNB 431J.It was new to Avis Truck Hire in 1971 and brought by Hills in 1972 from Brinksway Motors in Stockport." https://www.flickr.com/photos/sludgeulper/2882147672 , Link to "www.trucknetuk.com" , http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=981&start=3690 |
