Mk3, so likely to be too late for Ducati build which seems 1963-65 only. |

I'm not too sure about the Italian assembly. As far as I know, only very, very few Heralds and TR4s were actually assembled by Ducati in 1963 (if any). It has been announced several times in 1962 that Ducati would begin assembly in 1963, but it has never been confirmed that they actually did and that more than a few "pre-production" cars were built. However, from October 1962 until December 1969 Ducati was also general importer for Triumph cars in Italy. I assume those also received the "Meccanica Ducati Bologna" badge as it is found on far more cars than are reported to have been assembled there. |

Ducati Spitfires seem to have had unique double bubble rear lights as well as the badge, and this Mk3 has them. Hadn't realised Heralds were also on the Ducati list ... |

Please forgive me my very delayed reply. I'm afraid the taillights only indicate that the car was made for Italy, not in Italy. The negotiations between Leyland and Ducati were abandoned by the end of 1963 because they could not agree on where to build the new assembly plant. Therefore, no Triumph has been assembled in Italy after that. So, this '68 Spitfire is only a Ducati import rather than a Ducati build. |
