My apologies I have called this wrongly. The shape of the chrome surround to the windscreens indicates that these are probably the 1948 8 foot wide variant, the S8, mechanically identical to the S6 but 6 inches wider following a legislation change. All 100 S8 were bodied by Metro-Cammell. Both S6, S8 and S9 buses were allocated to the Midland Red's Rugby garage during the period. Some of the S9, 100 similar design buses but bodied by Brush, were also allocated to Rugby garage. There is no way to tell one from t'other at this distance, but at least it can't be an S7 because there weren't any. Well, that's my excuse, although the bottle of Rioja may not have helped my eyesight. Still a first sighting of the type. -- Last edit: 2017-08-04 11:30:18 |
