Yes, '50 or '51 based on whether the windscreen is split or not. |

It's a '51 not only because of the one-piece windshield but also because of the grille/spinner design. That is a better way to identify a '51 because Land Cruisers, convertibles and starlight coupes all had one-piece windshields back to 1947. Is this a Commander or Champion? Since the car has stainless steel rocker trim, it could be either. All Commanders had this feature but so did Champion Regals. The key is the gravel guard. If it is stainless steel, it is a Commander State. If it is rubber, it is a Regal-trimmed Champion OR Commander. The subject car appears to have a rubber gravel guard, so I will list as 1951 Studebaker Regal. A better photo would be nice, and one of the rear would determine the model for sure since Commanders all had V-8 trunk lid emblems. (Oddly, this car appears to be wearing 1950 Champion bumper guards!) -- Last edit: 2017-08-17 16:04:45 |

then something is fishy about my last year sight .. the owner told me it was a 1950 but either its a 1951 or a 1950 with a 1951 windshield |

Your link shows a completely different car, a '50 Champion. The subject car clearly has a '51 front (except for the bumper guards). The only way the subject car could be a '50 would be if an entire '51 clip was put on a '50 model along with the one-piece w/s. |

i didn't said our subject was a 1950 , i just said i based my comment on the one ( and currently the only one ) i saw ![]() and that the one in my link has something fishy as it should have like you said , a 2-piece windshield -- Last edit: 2017-08-17 18:56:35 |

OK. But your linked car is correct with a one-piece windshield because it is a 5-passenger coupe ("Starlight"). Per my 14:37 comment above, Starlights, Land Cruisers and convertibles all had one-piece windshields starting in 1947, while 2 and 4 door sedans kept two-piece ones until model year 1951 when all models went one-piece. -- Last edit: 2017-08-17 19:02:00 |

Start reading in the Studebaker section on this site. It's a great education. Check out the on-line articles on Studebaker and the Studebaker Driver's Club website. Here is a link: http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/index.asp I have been a member since 1974 and own my grandfather's 1957 Commander Deluxe which I just finished restoring last year. |
