I think these are all different titles for the same thing (including the "Cowled Radiator" description on some of the links. More views of CPD 570 here. It's a Jan-March 1935 plate, and has black wings as apparently used on all Lingbridge-built Austins until 1938. Body coloured radiator surround and projecting boot came for 1935 on the 10(/4) and the four-light body was called Lichfield (alongside a 6-light fastback Sherborne). So I think Ten Lichfield should be OK within our system. |

Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this matter, but why are these 10/4s entered as "Ten" when 12/4s are entered as "12/4" ? |

Because we're trying to make the best of a chaotic numbering system where Austin used different name/number systems as words and numbers in the 1930s, plus offered 4 and 6 cyl versions of the same car simultaneously. So 10, 10/4 and Ten were all used within a short period; plus 12, 12/4, 12/6, Light 12/6 and Twelve. And Heavy Twelve was another but I think we abandoned that one. I've asked similar questions before, which led to some simplification into a system we can use consistently without too many problems, particularly if x/4 and x/6 versions look identical. But we may still have more juggling to do..... |
