If the movie is American, this is 1991.

I think it's more than just a background vehicle. I remember the scene right after they show this car, when Alec Baldwin's character is giving the speach and he says something like "How do I know? Because you drove here in a Hyundai and I drove my $80,000 BMW", which is referring to this 8-series.

Sorry, I misspelled "speech".

I completely agree with mr_1977. Don't remeber if we could see a Baldwin in this car, but it was obvious that belongs to him.
I've changed the star number.

Mr 1977 is right, this is obviously his $80,000 BMW that he mentions in his brutal pep talk (brilliantly delivered by Baldwin). However this car never moves, we just see it parked outside in this one shot.

Today's $80,000 BMW would be an M4 Coupé https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/669940369/overview/. However, $80,000 in 1992 equals to $136,428.23 in 2016, which means that Alec Baldwin's character would be driving an i8 https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/660347961/overview/
