When started the export to the USA? Already in 1969? /vehicles.php?make=Capri&model=&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on |

I think it was fairly quick after European launch, but would need US comment to confirm. I'm saying 1969+ for these as reflection of European sequence - usually the long side vents but also thin rear lights - to distinguish from 73+ facelift (short vents and full rear lights). -- Last edit: 2011-01-28 23:33:09 |

USA market Ford Capris were introduced in April 1970 right after FoMoCo (USA) discontinued importing the Ford Cortina (which was sold by Ford dealerships); subsequent European Ford products were imported by the Lincoln-Mercury division (at the time the Capri was a standalone product until TV ads refer to it as Mercury's Capri - same with the Comet during the early 1960s when it was originally an Edsel product and released as a standalone until it was made an official Mercury product in 1962; some Capris sold by L-M had the 1972+ Mercury script on decklids; also the 4 headlight setup (sourced from the UK Capri 3000GT - European market 7 x 4 square headlights were illegal for sale and/or use in the USA along with the associated H4 bulbs) and power dome hood were common with the USA market Capri since it was manufactured by Ford Werke in Cologne or Saarlouis in West Germany) |
