Nice RAF Douglas C-47 ... isn't the 1st tank a "Shermann"? |

both are ex "Bridge Too Far"... HVSS suspension on the nearest Sherman..the other is the same fake Sherman Firefly from "Bridge Too Far"..its actually a turretless recovery version with fake turret and gun.the nearest Firefly is also a fake..it has the later HVSS suspension..never a feature on British issue Shermans..they all had the earlier VVSS suspension -- Last edit: 2008-11-29 13:26:51 |

Looks like this was filmed during filming of ABTF. Most of these same vehicles including aircraft appear in that movie. |

The rear is a Sherman Vc or an M4A4 converted to a Firefly. I'm certain of that due to the shape of the rear deck. The front is based on an M4A2 or M4A3 since the rear is welded. The M4 has a full cast hull and the M4A1 has a cast rear and welded (flat not rounded) Glacis plate. -- Last edit: 2007-06-17 06:48:23 |

Most of the Shermans used in A Bridge Too Far (same ones seen here) were fake. Fake Sherman fiberglass bodies over car or truck chassis. Only 4 (of the many in that movie) were real. I'm not sure if these are real or fake. |

The nearer one looks mre like a disguised Isreli M50 Super Sherman with the HVSS suspension and longer gun and mantlet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:M50-Supersherman-latrun-1.jpg |

Full-width grill upon a back of the nearest tank indicates almost certainly M4A3, with late hull and late HVSS suspension. Most were made by Chrysler. This isn't Israeli Super Sherman, because they had longer counterweights behind a turret. I think, that long barrel is fake, to make it similar to Sherman Firefly (which it is not). The other tank is probably M4A3 with early hull (open hatch suggests also full-width grill). -- Last edit: 2013-01-10 21:43:34 |

PS. the planes are definitely not A6M Zeros, but some trainers. The tanks could have been also rearmed with US 76mm gun post-war. |

The turret is a high bustle turret, so that indicates it is a 105mm Sherman. The barrel is fake. The M4A3 (105) HVSS was only manufactured by Chrysler. |
