Here is a way better picture of the truck and it should get 3 stars by the way![]() -- Last edit: 2018-01-31 17:03:55 |

The rear bar makes me think it could be a 4Runner. |

It is a 1985 Toyota 4Runner. The rear interior roll bar came standard from 1985 to 1989, you are correct. It also has a bikini top (Looks like a Jeep YJ) and is missing the stock hard top (not a camper shell). This was the FIRST year they added EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) and the LAST year of the SFA (Solid Front Axle-housing). Both are present on this truck which makes it an 85'. When he is working under the hood after the train shootout, you can clearly see the EFI Plenum, fuse box and other items ONLY on the 85'(if you know what you're looking at). This truck has been modified however... It has a Trail-Gear (awesome company, they make EVERYTHING aftermarket for these old toyotas since 1985) front and rear bumper as well as their lift kits front and rear. It also has a steering box (visible when they drive and park the truck up on the ridge looking down at the city) from a 1990-1996 Toyota 4Runner V6 and likely a master cylinder (MC) from the same truck (needed to drive the larger steering box [1" bore MC with larger reservoir]). This steering box is needed to drive the "high-steer" conversion installed on that rig, this allows for incredible maneuverability and front axle contortion off-road in very difficult terrain. The High-steer conversion along with the new suspension, rear bumper, shock mounts, require quite a bit of fabrication work, welding and knowledge to be installed correctly. The steering system on the stock 1985 was not the best, it was built to be extremely durable, however it limited range of motion and contortion of the front axle heavily, especially with the dampening bar from the frame to the axle housing. Set up the way they have it in this movie.... you have the worlds most capable off-road vehicle that anyone can afford. The only thing better would be a complete custom build which would cost a fortune and be designed for very specific uses. |

Movie was filmed in South Africa. Were they called Hilux Surf there like they were outside of North America? Or were they also 4Runner? |
