What were they doing to it? |

It was used on the "Driven to Destruction" feature, where they submitted the Audi to the "Cold Start Thrash" test. -Basically, the test consisted of Vicki playing tug of war with the Audi vs the AA Truck; simulating what most chavs tend to do when they finally get their hands on a RWD car like tatty BMW 316i for instance...or a Vauxhall Carlton. Anyway... The Audi actually survived the test other than engine overheating and a blown-up left front tire. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -It's an Audi 100 Avant 2.0E. -- Last edit: 2007-09-10 14:03:23 |

If that was an auto it`d be dead! They are pretty indestructable though, I checked my neighbours one for him a couple of years ago, it`s a 92 Audi 100 2.3 Avant, it had done around 170,000 miles then, when I saw the timing belt I couldnt believe it, it was knackered, covered in cracks etc, I told him he needed to change it urgently before it broke, however, being a 2.3 5 cylinder model it needs the whole front end[headlights, radiators, grille, front panel etc] removed to get to the timing belt, when I explained this to him & said how much it`d cost he said"no, I`ll leave it, I`m sure it`ll be fine"... I just said ok then, shrugged, & that was that.... Around a year ago he said it was loosing water & oil, when I`ve looked there were clear signs that the head gasket was leaking, both internally & externally, I explained what that meant & he said"well, the timing belts still not gone like you said it would, so I`m gonna risk it & just top it up daily"... I said Ok then! shook my head laughing & off he went again! Well, 2 years down the line, he`s recently gone over 210,000 mile mark & the timing belt STILL has not broken & its still starting & not overheating [although it is smoking & rough when cold & when accelerating], he`s been putting around a litre of both oil & water in EVERY week!?! He`s NEVER serviced it, the only thing I`ve changed for him was 1 HT lead. He never even cleans the thing! The car is unbelievable! But then that was built when Germany actually built cars to last[unlike the ones of the last 15 years]! |
