I believe double exhaust pipes (and of course Euro-spec) means it is either a 528i or a 535i. After the stairs drop the one exhaust tip breaks off! Could even be an M5 but unlikely. -- Last edit: 2018-12-26 00:07:37 |

It looks M5-ish, but doesn't have the M logo grille badge. I'd guess a 528i with M5 lookalike trim (there may have been a factory option pack??), including the extra fogs beneath front bumper. |

They probably used several different cars for the role and had to make them look identical. |

Just a little update. It seems even non-aero package M5's had a subtle front spoiler specific to the model plus body-coloured rear view mirrors. Both of these details are missing from this car (or cars) |

One of the few 80s BMWs on this site that actually has a year for it. |

The chase is a mix of French Connection+Bourne series+Ronin. The most suprising chase in recent years' movie |

Wild observation incoming: At least two of the MI:Fallout BMWs are US-spec E28s converted to euro-spec. Yes, this sounds ridiculous until you start looking at the footage closer. Take a look, particularly, at the one stunt car in the film that has damage to the rear subframe (no telling if this is the stair car that ripped its subframe during one of the takes). Now look under the rear bumper. ![]() ![]() See those three depressions, two at either side and one in the center? I'm excluding, of course, the dent midway between the center depression and right depression. Those are the recesses for US-mount bumpers. Euro cars have a continuous lower valance. Speed Academy has all the documentation on the bumper conversion on this page. Read through the four pages and then look at a Euro E28's rear end: http://speed.academy/bmw-e28-euro-bumper-conversion-part-3/ There's no questioning it, that's a US spec E28. The filler panels next to the foglights in the front valance are also missing in a number of shots - another part which has to be added when doing a US to Euro conversion, and likely left off, especially as the camera rigs do a number on the valances. I *just* noticed this while working on unrelated screenshots from Knight Rider and Diamonds are Forever, so I really haven't looked at all the phone footage and other on-set footage posted to YouTube and the like. Will post updates if I find time to go looking through the film. EDIT: No idea how many cars are on screen, but a few screenshots in order of how they appear on film: US converted car: ![]() EU car: ![]() ![]() ![]() Possibly another car, EU spec, probably used for shooting through the window given the plexiglass replacement: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Staircase car in the film is a different US car, notice that unlike the first US car, the US license plate bolt holes are clearly present AND used to hold the French plate in place (in a very non-standard location): ![]() ![]() ![]() Ilsa goes for a flight and an EU car drives off: ![]() -- Last edit: 2024-12-31 01:23:34 |

Another thing relating to this car - the front fender has been partially replaced with CGI:![]() Based on the plexiglass side window, this is the same car being used for the takes in the following YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO9d0--Y5tw, but note that the fender is undamaged until the fender is clearly damaged in one take. In this scene, the car has not taken any damage at this point in the story, so the huge fender smash had to be dealt with. Looks as if a bit of CG touchup was employed here. -Kurt |
