There's an Alfa Romeo in this race too.

Opel or Vauxhall in HK? RHD or LHD? UK or German-made??

Ingo DE

@dsl: rather Opel. Hongkong and Japan preferring Opel than Vauxhall.

To identify, where it was made, you need the VIN-number ;) GM doesn't separate the European production for LHD and RHD.

The reason I asked was that RHD Opel-badged Vectras were being made in UK (long discussion in /vehicle.php?id=312724) - did Germany also make RHD Opel Vectras? If not this would be UK-made. Or was there any Eastern assembly such as Holden producing Opel-badged RHD Vectras for export???

The Vectra A was never made in Australia. It was not even sold there.

As ingo said, RHD versions were also made in Germany, badged as Vauxhall for the UK and Opel for other RHD markets like Ireland. And Opel-badged cars were probably also made in the UK. It just depended on capacity and demand at any particular time.

@dsl: I think, with the Vectra, Opel has made it the same way, as with the other models, too. In the particular plants, all version were made on the same lines, RHD and LHD. So in Ellesmere Port were also LHD-Astra's made (oh, but no 3-door-versions at all, as it's said: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel ).

Aha, interesting more details: in Eisenach only 3-door Corsa's were built and all Agila A (the Suzuki-clone) were made in Poland, all Agila B's in Hungaria.

[:heink] Are we correct here about all these tiny details... ?? Anybody here can feel free to engage himself in a night-shift to check all listed Opels and Vauxhall for it.

Sure, as I wrote in the link about the Astra G of a friends father (who even was an Opel-worker)

If this is correct, then this could be from the 1995 Japanese Touring Car Championship:

as a couple of Opel Vectra's are listed as entrants.

Where the cars were previous to this year, though, is anyones guess, they could have raced in the British Touring Car Championship, in which case they would originally be Vauxhall's.

However, in this case, Opel's are more likely.

Definitely, not probably. BTW all production of the new Astra Tourer comes from Ellesmere Port in UK - RHD/LHD, Vauxhall/Opel. Not made in any other factory anywhere.

This film was shot well before the 1995 season was finished, so I don't think one of the Opel teams would sell its own car just to see it crashed.

The wheels aren't really supertouring-sized either.

Sorry - I would love to but I have to finish sorting out my drawer full of socks to match up all the odd ones ........

*thinking about the meaning of dsl's "odd" concerning socks*

Eeeh, which is the systematic for separating out the "odd" ones?
a) design
b) smell
c) number of the holes

Not sure how far to pursue this one, but it has to be design. None of my socks smell because they have no nose*. And they all have one hole, otherwise I could not wear them.

(* = that joke is so prehistoric, it may even work for an international audience).

The one in the film is just a road going model. Notice that the wheels are even the same of the Cavalier/Vectra CD of that era. ;) So it was bound to rollover when driven in a more... "spirited" manner.

It is, well spotted. At least it would be a comfy landing, with the CD's crushed velour interior trim :D

This final race were also shot in Malaysia, 'cause of the heavy rain.
