Even then it is possible that someone changed the rims on a standard 206.

 No, S16 everywere, because GTi looks like a standard 206... The s16 is notable... it's tall.

Agree S16 name never used in UK. XSi, Quiksilver [sic], GTi 180 and Sport editions had body colour side trim so can be excluded, SE had body colour mirrors so similar exclusion. Jan 99+ GTi (137bhp) not recorded as having body colour features as above - do other details such as slightly flared bodywork edges match?

 In Belgium I do not recall having seen S16 either, we had the GTI as equivalent of the French S16

 French imports, I guess. There does not seem to be lots of versions for the 207 on peugeot.pt, maybe it was the same for the 206 and so people had to import them.
