I think it is VW-based. It looks a lot like the Ruska Regina, but it is different |

Agree- most likely a kit of some sort |

I agree with Firebird86, re:gazelle. However, I think it is a modern REPLICA of the 1929 Mercedes Gazelle. They were usually built on a VW chassis but I don't know by whom. I think they may also have been available as a kit. |

Like /vehicle_89579-Mercedes-Benz-SSK-Gazelle-1929.html ? I thought that "Gazelle" was the replica name/maker, not the original name |

I think you are probably right. I don't know how to properly list them but they are not made by Mercedes Benz. Having the make as Mercedes is an error and misleads people. They could be built on various chassis. The most common was probably VW but the one my neighbor had was built on a ford chassis. I don't know who actuallly supplied the kit or if they were available preassembled. For listing, I would suggest: Year = leave blank make = Kit car (or the kit maker if anyone knows the name) model = Gazelle SSK Extra Info = 1929 Mercedes replica Could probably switch the make and model if that would be better for the search function. -- Last edit: 2007-07-11 18:23:09 |

Well, we usually use the make of what they look like as make because people will usually search on that. Especially for Ferrari/Lamborghini replica: they remember a Ferrari in a movie, not a kit car in a movie ![]() In this case, following your suggestion, why would not the make be Gazelle btw? -- Last edit: 2007-07-12 10:19:26 |

If it will help people we can include Mercedes in the make but unlike most other replicas this car is not a good copy. It looks somewhat like a 1929 Mercedes SSK. You have to look pretry hard to distinguish some replicas (especially Cobra replicas) but not this beast. One brief look reveals it to be a modern car. I don't even know why its called a replica because it doesn't resemble an SSK much more than the early Excaliburs do - but I guess I am being to critical again. |
