The radiator suggest this is a Leyland Tiger PS1 or 2... |

Potteries Motor Traction Leyland Tiger passing The Roaches while bound for Hanley. 1949 OPS1/1 with body by Burlingham from the MEH series is a possibility, or 1949 PS2/5 with Brush body (following an ECW design) from the NEH series which may be more likely from the shape of the destination indicator. http://www.classicbuses.co.uk/pmt.html In the period after WW2 PMT bought up several local competing companies, many of which had Tiger single deck buses in their fleets and there was a great amount of body interchange and modification which took place. The result is a very confusing picture which makes it hard to be accurate even when the numberplate is decipherable. -- Last edit: 2018-05-18 11:59:18 |

I have exhumed a photograph of NEH 436, fleet no. S436 in the Potteries Motor Traction stud which confirms beyond doubt that this is the PS2/5/Brush as thought. For those of a detective (or defective?) frame of mind, the image appears in “Classic Bus” issue 139 October/November 2015 on page 14 as the frontispiece to an article on 1950s Potteries buses. These buses were of an unique design, being the only 8ft wide examples carrying this coachwork. -- Last edit: 2018-05-18 11:52:38 |
