Vogue grille. howmanyleft? says no Vogue Estates still left, but googling pictures throws up a handful of current/recent photos so there are scattered survivors, despite the jfs Arrow Eradication Programme Of The 1970s. |

It wasn’t hard to do, they were self destructing. |

So Jfs' Arrow Eradication Programme was the equivalent to Maggie Thatcher's policy to get rid of the trade unions and the coalmining industry? ![]() -- Last edit: 2018-05-31 20:40:49 |

We still have trade unions, and who needs coal nowadays? Link to "www.businessgreen.com" -- Last edit: 2018-05-31 21:46:09 |

We're getting a new pit soon, 2-3 million tonnes/PA of top-whack coking coal for the steel industry, just offshore. They hope to start digging the new shafts within the next 6 months. https://www.westcumbriamining.com/west-cumbria-mining/ -- Last edit: 2018-06-01 01:32:51 |

I get the feeling coal mining still exists mainly because otherwise most of the nations would have literally nothing else to do for jobs |

The two coal fired power stations in central Staffordshire, Rugeley A, 600Mw, and B, 1000Mw are currently being pulled down, despite their sitting literally on top of Lea Hall colliery, the coal never seeing daylight from hewing to burning, being quite modern in design esp. the B station with 2 x 500Mw units, and much money spent on Sulphur scrubbers in the very recent past. The pit closed and coal latterly came in by rail, renewable fuel was considered but not taken up. Drax in Yorkshire is now powered by wood pellets imported from USA, and wind turbines are sprouting everywhere. Coking coal is a specialist requirement, but with Trump’s latest piece of tomfoolery on importation duties, for how much longer? -- Last edit: 2018-06-01 09:48:18 |
