Marathon not 1300 for the lack of the additional front lights inside the grille more in a central position. |

thank you, electra225, as i wondered about visible difference between 1100 and 1300 would be additionnel headlights. After all have been surprised to find one on that tiny island! my mother's first car has been a DAF 44, we had three at least from 1971 to 1979 The variomatic made it easy to gain first driving experience here in the Odenwald at the age of 11 ![]() -- Last edit: 2018-06-20 00:09:58 |

You are welcome. Do you remember the colours of those Dafs ? I love such cars, ignored by most of the old cars fans. -- Last edit: 2018-07-01 18:12:11 |

Thank you. I love those colour of the cars of the 70s, especially Germany cars. You were famous for buying cars in bright colours (Knalle Farben). Most people here found them too much colourful but I loved (and still love) them. |

I would buy a DAF 44, when I could get a dark red 1974 MY with beige cloth seats - my grandmother had such a car. ![]() I opened the door of a Peugeot 104, looked inside and in the glovebox - and a "That's the smell of grandmother's DAF!" smashed in my brain! Since then I irritate the DAF-freaks on classic car events - I always ask them, if I could sniff at the interior ![]() |

Was sniffing a Daf so different ? |

Not different, but somehow unique, as several cars back then. Most known ist the unique smell of the old Benzes, W108,W115,W123 and so on, caused by the MB-Tex seat cloth. There was even a K 70-interior smell. My first one in 1990 still had it. My actual car, bought in 1998, not. That car smelled for years slightly for olive oil. The previous owner was an olive oil wholesailer in San Remo and the K 70 stood besides the wooden oil barrels in a 200 years old cellar. |

Try the scent of a Morris Minor that’s been standing in the sun with the windows shut. Unique! |

A neighbours Standard 10 when I was a kid, the only car I've ever puked in (I always managed to get my head out of the window when drunk in the back of a taxi), I blame the animal based glue used on the interior. |

my BMW E36 with leather seats + plastic interior smells like the BMW 502 V8 of my father did, although it had velour + real wood , maybe they still use the same glue or floor textiles |

It's not just the European cars? Back in the mid '70s thru mid '80s,a Ford/Mercury with a beige vinyl interior had a really unique aroma as well? Hard to explain, but a little bit like peanuts?? Fords from the early '60s (Like my Grandfathers old Falcon) also had a rather unique smell, too? Used to just think it was his,but I've been in a few others that also had that same odd smell?? |

I remember those cars for the unique ability to be driven at highway speeds------In Reverse!!! One of the lower ranking Sergeants in my Father's unit back about '79 had such a car,he used to do this sometimes to 'show off' on the lesser traveled roads, mostly to scare his passengers!!! |

Many of these DAFjes were destroyed in the reverse-banger-racings, which were for a long time popular in Holland ![]() |
