Does anybody know if this is likely to have been a genuine Police car? the colour seems very unusual, in the film it was a chauffeur driven car of the Chief Superintendent. |

LOV 701X was a pre-production registered 2 months before 2000 launch in Jan 82 as part of the second series facelift - there were no first version 2000s. Birmingham plates so a factory car, and seems to have died by July 1988. I guess a launch fleet car then used for publicity/PR so loaned out for the film while the facelift was fairly new. We have a few SD1 2000s as police cars, but if I were a Chief Superintendent (or his chauffeur) I'd be taking the allocation of such a miserably slow and basic version as a strong message about my future promotion prospects. |
