The "star car". used by Rod Mullinar's title character, Michael Ryan.

A 1972 Charger XL, optioned up with a few extras - side stripe, sports wheels, "black-out" front treatment, driving lights, remote driver's door mirror, sports steering wheel, inertia-reel seat belts, flip-top fuel cap.

A "mis-hap" in episode 8 - legend has it that the location scouts checked a location for the next day's filming, in which the Charger was supposed to zoom through some light standing water in a car chase scene. Overnight rain increased the depth of the water significantly with the following result:

I'm rather skeptical: the earlier parts of the sequence show the cars throwing up a lot of dust, which wouldn't happen after heavy overnight rain. There's a couple of different camera angles of it, too - one of which is basically directly in front of where the car would have gone had the water not stopped it...

A second car was also used, possibly due to the dunking in episode 8 - only way to tell them apart is the registration number (original car is LEY-737, back-up car is LCJ-166), driver's door mirror - LEY-737 is round, LCJ-166 is square, and seat belts - LEY has inertia-reel, LCJ has standard. In scenes where one has fake number plates, the registration label can also be used to differentiate (the main car has a July 1972 label, the back-up car has a March 1972 label).

In this cap from ep. 16, the back-up car has standard wheels:

LCJ-166, episode 19. Centre cap is LEY-737 with fake plates to maintain continuity:
