The Jeep is a 84-85. In the main photo lol at the serial number on the side of the hood..it reads 84B then the mumber. The 84 means it was purchased or contracted for in 1984...so it could have been delivered in 85. The "B" means it is an "off the shelf" commercial vehicle (not designed for military use). I'm restoring a M38A1 in period US Air Force markings. It's Air Force suffix is K, (55K,bought in 1955) meaning it was designed for the military. Even though the M38A1 looks like a CJ-5,(the A1 was introduced in 1953, the CJ-5 in 1955) there are MANY differences. Production of the M38A1 ended in the early '60s, so if the military needed Jeeps for non-combat use (the M151 was the front line Jeep), the services would buy commercial CJ-5-7-8s. |
