It's a 1957 Buick. Probably a Century, although hard to make out in this night time picture. |

I agree on that, most likely a Century |

Can't decide where filmed. "E German" spy chief car with flashing blue light. |

Could it be somewhere in Finland? Some of the buildings appear to be wooden. |

But the style of the buildings is not Finnish. Not European at all, rather Northern American. Otherwise: these oriels are British style: http://pics.imcdb.org/10314/1-39-04militarycollection.jpg But this is the only British touch in this scenery. I'd go for a "whatever you want" movie backdrop. The only slightly DDR-approach are the position of the road sign at the pedestrian barriers. But all other details are totally far from any real fact. So they hadn't illuminated shop-signs, nor pastry shops ("Konditorei") and no travel agencies "Reisebüro" -for what purpose? They were caged and had worthless money-, except some single in bigger towns (which all were ruled by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handelsorganisation ). -- Last edit: 2014-01-24 21:20:35 |

I never saw anything else which made me think actual film footage in actual Finland (assuming plane footage was sourced elsewhere). If this is real Finland, then the fake rocket launcher on main page is Finland which has implications for the Skoda in shadow in that photo - either all the other Skoda footage is Finland (which because it appears in the checkpoint scene with the ZiS truck and red bike means they are Finland too, not Spain as surmised so far). Or there's more than one Skoda. Or they shipped vehicles to different locations across Europe. But I can imagine old ZiS trucks are almost impossibly rare in Spain and more likely in Finland .... |

ZiS in Spain is possible - the residue after the 1930s Civil War. |

I've read that Eduardo Barreiros got his start by finding a way to convert ZiS engines to diesel. Anyway, the landscapes in the scenes with the ZiS look much more like Spain than Finland. |
