Silver Cloud. Probably a Standard Steel Saloon of either Series 1 or 2. On the evidence of the photograph it may be a Long Wheelbase Saloon, but not a certainty. |

On numbers built, unless anyone recognises tha actual car, go for Standard Steel Saloon IMHO. |

No spiders eyes so should be SC2, although jfs has often said that SC1 owners did upgrade to sealed beam. |

^ in the headlights. Spiders eyes were Lucas P700s with centre blob for bulb shroud and 2 vertical lines ("legs") (example) or sometimes 3 legs (12 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock). Originally identified as a clue by chris40, but is complicated to fully explain. As I understand it, spiders eye only used on RHD SC1 (UK, Aus, HK etc) - LHD for export used normal format (although oddly we seem to have a couple of French examples as well), so no visible difference between LHD SC1 and all SC2. Similarly RHD Bentley S1 also had spiders eyes, but not LHD or any S2. chris40 said SC1 had 3 legs, Bentley 2 legs, but am unsure if that works properly (as my linked example above), although to confuse things further Bentleys often got fitted with RR grilles, so 2-leg "RRs" may mean they were really Bentleys. It's not a totally workable rule - only obvious in some cases, and relies on the car still having its original lights. jfs and I discussed its reliability or not here. |
