Very Close....It's really a 1966 Oldsmobile Jetstar 88? (the cheapest full size car)

Determined by the base trim and lack of window frame moldings in additon to nearly being able to make the nomenclature on the rear fender this one is a 1966 Olds Jetstar 88 4-door sedan.

Wow :wow: American cars were very rare in the uk back then. However I suppose there were a few in London.

Most came off the airbases. There is a yard near me which was once full of American cars that had all been bought ftom the nearest airbase. Apart from the bases, I doubt there were any other major import sources of American cars to the UK...?

Yes and no....! Late 50s almost every US make was theoretically distributed in UK - they all took stands at Earls Court Motor show for instance. 1960s became less easily available - depended to some extent whether RHD was offered (either ex-factory or official conversion - AMC/Rambler had this as a USP until the early 70s, but Chrysler imported RHD from Australia and stopped US imports or approved distribution). Ford opened an international import office in Middlesex which could order any Ford product from anywhere in the world, with US alongside Aus and Germany for instance and did offer RHD conversions to some extent, including RHD Taunuses as discussed a few months ago. Approved but third party RHD conversions were developed for some glamour models eg Mustang, T-bird, but these usually depended on enough demand being present, so non-glam models disappeared off lists. GM stopped distribution but a London dealer - Lendrum & Hartman - imported glam models (eg Corvettes, Cadillac etc) some of which could be RHD converted, and could get non-glam models if asked. So an Oldsmobile like this could be ordered if someone really wanted one. But your other comment about US bases is also very relevant for then and now. I have family in Yorkshire, so often visit Yorkshire near the Menwith Hill radar base which is US-run/staffed. Very common to see US-spec cars with UK plates in the area - more often than not they are not US makes, but things like Ford Focus, Honda Accords etc - presumably the attraction is for makes/models with easy access to servicing/repair networks locally.

Is is a Jetstar 88. The lower body molding does not extend all the way to the bumpers like the Dynamic 88 molding.
