1971 Cadillac Sedan DeVille |
◊ 2006-12-27 15:52 |
Im pretty sure it's a '72 "Sedan de Ville" with white vinyl roof. The car that is flattened has the parking lights between the headlights (1972); the one with the "GRANDPA" license tag has a "V" and crest on the trunk (1972). |

according to the DVD they say it's a 1973 Cadillac but I believe it's a 1972 cause Les said the car was 16 years old (the movie was released in 1988) |

1972 taillamps. |

The license plate "GRANDPA" is apparently a real one. After looking it up on www.bar.ca.gov , the results were: 1991 Cadillac Fleetwood/DeVille (last tested in 1999) 1986 Chrysler LeBaron (last tested in 2000) 1998 Toyota Tacoma (last tested in 2008) 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 (last tested in 2010) |

Apparently nine were used in the movie. |

Guys, calm down. This car was only 16 years old at the time. They had no idea that these cars would become collectibles; at the time this car was just another dated sedan. It'd be someone remaking this today and using a 2000 Cadillac DeVille, a dated car now. |

in the DVD commentary they say that they bought 9 1974 Cadillacs and the goal was to find the biggest BOAT they could find -- Last edit: 2016-10-19 19:37:19 |

The people who mutilate these beautiful classic vehicles are 100% pure INSANE IDIOTS!!! This stuff should be outlawed!!! |

Generally I have the same opinion, but note, that the film is from 1988, so it was a 16 year old -the age, when a car is most worthless, clunker, worth just a handful of $ |
◊ 2016-11-10 19:09 |
I'd assume there were several. |

I saw one of these big old land yachts during the summer. Someone was at my neighbors across the road and they had a '72 Sedan DeVille parked in the driveway. The guy had been inside for a half hour and he left the engine running. It was a HUGE car in person. |

Contrast it with today's HUGE vans and suv's and it doesn't seem so large. |

Good for you, Kingz, because Hollywood sure doesn't. |

Anyone else find it weird that the car on the poster is a Porsche, yet the cool cars Les drives in the film are a Cadillac and a Ferrari? |

Its 14 years after this comment was originally posted, and 33 years after this "film" was released. Knowing enough about the plot, I refused to watch then and refuse to watch now this desceration. Obviously this car was more plentiful then, and its likely not-so-good examples were destroyed, but I have less problem a with the use of a more contemporary Cadillac from the time when this was produced. I'm not a big fan of the FWD cars, but a '72 still was a dignified "Standard of the World". RIP Cadillac; RIP Corey. |

Lighten up you guys. This movie is legit one of the funniest I've ever seen. I know a lot of die-hard caddy fans will cringe at this movie, and there's no need for it. At least 80,000 of these were made, maybe even more, and yet a couple getting destroyed is enough to ruin a fantastic film for you? I don't get how somebody can't get at least a chuckle from watching a kid without his license just watch helplessly as his grandpa's car gets more and more destroyed and yet he still presses on to get it home. Granted I'm an antique semi truck enthusiast so I guess my opinion doesn't count. -- Last edit: 2022-05-30 06:14:58 |

just saw the movie... that poor Caddy... |

It's all in your perspective. If you love old cars in general and old Cadillacs in particular, you would understand. If you don't, you wouldn't. Simple. |

Stampede1975 was correct when he said that 9 or so cars were used for filming. Of those cars used for filming, 4 of them were already damaged prior to being filmed, one of which was damaged beyond repair. (The latter being the one that had the steel beam dropped on it's roof.) When filming wrapped up, the rest either were undamaged or had minor damage like scratches and such. I've developed a love for these land yachts recently, and hearing this cheered me up a bit. The movie is free on youtube as of writing this comment in case anybody wants to check it out. |

yes , this movie despite the poor reviews (for some reason) is actually very enjoyable and well made !! , the director is very enthusiastic about it on commentary track , a good example Les' parents aren't potrayed as morons or jerks like you would except from such movie -- Last edit: 2024-10-31 23:58:23 |
