GXL for me. |

Perfectly round C-pillar badge would point to Ghia. On the GXL it was oval-shaped. |

Ghias in UK (at least) had the colour-coded halo wheel trims, and then later silver alloys. These look like the sculpted steels of GXL?? |

As with the W126, the alloys are not a reliable source of identification. The badge on the C-pillar, however, is. Same goes for the brighter side flash. Here's a Ghia with above wheels. GXL: ![]() Ghia: ![]() |

Ok - Ghia here. I still find Ghias with steels odd, but maybe there were differences in spec between cars built in/for UK from D (or B??) build for Europe. Also slightly puzzled by Glass's references that both GXL and Ghia were sold here alongside each other in 1974-75 - my memory is that Ghia was a straight GXL replacement, and apart from the grille too similar for any visual difference to be noticeable in the strict hierarchy of the executive car park. But so be it - maybe it was just a fuzzy year until Ford sorted out proper spec differentiation. Also noticed another possible GXL vs Ghia difference, that GXL seems to have painted body colour windscreen pillars behind the chrome trim, but on Ghia, the vinyl roof is extended down to the base. No reference found and not much use here, but googling pictures seems to show a clear split. |
