What would they catch in that? Hillman Minx or Hunter DL. |

Naughty people - it's their job. Hunter DL - 1973-ish wheels. |

this is a bad infraction of the trias politica! In a democratic system it's not allowed to mix up judiciary and ececutive - but here it is! Being arrested by the police is executive, being transported in Rootes-crap is punishment -judicative-, both together is a bad failure against the roots of a democratic system. |

No ingo - you've missed out an important feature of the British system - the arrest may be performed by police using Rootes-jewels, but after they were arrested the criminals were offered a choice of which transport they would prefer from the luxury fleet of specially allocated RRs, Bentleys, Jags or Range-Rovers. In practice most of these naughty people said they preferred the Rootes-jewels to the luxury fleet. |

Having experienced four examples of the Estate Car version of the genus Hunterius Rootescraponis, over about 200,000 miles, and about 60,000 miles in my Bentley, I have to tell you that I know where my allegiances lie. |

That's very clear: Rootes : Bentley = 3 : 1 |

No, it doesn’t work like that. The Bentley is from choice, the Rootescrap was from necessity. As soon as I changed jobs that was it, no more Hillman or other associated cars for me. My daughter bought a new Peugeot which broke down in the centre of town, and I had to tow it in with my Golf. That was in 2001, since then she has had Ford or Vauxhall, and I have had VW, Audi or Mercédès. |

Well, this may not have happen, if she would have had some old Rootes-crap and not a new Peugeot. (to anticipate dsl and cl82, who surely will point that out). |

With some genuine Rootes-crap instead of the Peugeot, she probably would not have made it to the centre of the town in the first place... |

No kidding, somehow like this parents of a friend acted in the late 70ies. The father got a Jaguar XJ12 II 1/2 Series(?) as a company car - a marvellous car, wood in the dashboard, silk as roofcloth, lamb woolen carpet - but it always broke down. So the familiy used it only for the trip to the local Aldi-market, because it was a distance, you could walk, if the next breakdown happened. And the father made his business trips with the knackered K 70 or the mother's Audi 50 |
