Classic London Taxi. What was the base originally, an Austin? |

Way back in the 50s, yes: Austin cooperated with coachbuilders Mann Egerton in developing it. Over its 40-year production its intellectual ownership changed hands, ending up with LTI - who replaced it with the current TX series. Engines and transmissions came from a variety of sources, latterly Nissan Diesel. Wikipedia tells the whole story if you're interested; enter 'hackney carriage' and follow the link for FX4. (Sorry, I haven't figured out yet how to provide a link.) BTW this is probably an FX4 Fairway with the Nissan Diesel. -- Last edit: 2007-09-03 21:51:24 |
