Strange goings-on. Plate makes no sense - TL 5401(?) was 1936. And thumb has sprouted over-riders and bigger mascot = 1952 Hawk Mk5.

TI 5401 County Council of Limerick Jan 1904 to Sep 1959.

An avid car spotter called Dave
Found that Rootescrap was rather a rave
But a Limerick plate
Saw him scratching his pate
So I’ll stop now and give him a wave. 👋

However,

Exhaustive enquiries in Newall’s
To the mystery added some fuels
But a Limerick number
On the front of a Humber
Allows for the bending of ”rewalls”

Ave atque vale

No, it’s Latin.

"Latin is a language, as dead as dead can be, it killed the ancient Romans, and now it's killing me ".

Wanna see my O level?

The last two phrases are “the Romans never learned it, so why the **** should we?”

I had a very good lunch, it helps with rhyme schemes.

It also occurred to me that the first appearance, to my knowledge at any rate, of a car with a Limerick registration did beg for an appropriate rejoinder.

As far as I can tell, 1950s Humbers were imported into Ireland fully built, although there was much Hillman assembly. Later on there was Sceptre and Rapier assembly, but that may not have started until the [Arrow] era - details are a bit vague.
