Another one, with a slightly different bodywork: I tagged it as "Made for IS" because they were sold directly from the Soviets to Iceland in the mid 1950s... as an exchange for icelandic fish (true story) Link to "zen.yandex.ru" In Iceland, professional or amateur workers added this lovely-looking hard top because of Iceland's harsh climates. |

SUV for Fish program.. i'd like to know how the idea came out.. this said, as vehicles in Iceland mix US-Spec and EU ones, maybe they weren't modified in any way to make them specific to Iceland's market |

It was a political Cold War era thing. The Brits were angry that Icelanders were forbidding them from fishing in their territories, so they decided to impose an embargo on Iceland, and the Soviets took the advantage of this by supplying them with necessities, such as their vehicles. |
