Was it called "FF" in Europe ? |

No, just in the GDR. Honecker met with Hirohito in 1981, and after that the 323 was added to the GENEX catalogue. |

No, the Mazda-deal has nothing to do with the GENEX-catalogue ![]() The legendary 10.000 VW Golf, the 5.000 Mazda 323 and Citroen GSA and the 2.000 Volvo 244 DLS were specific deals, the DDR made with the makers. These cars could be ordered by DDR-citizens and paid in DDR-currency. Via GENEX Western relatives of DDR-citizens could order cars and many other goods for them, to be paid in D-Mark, not the worthless DDR-Mark (nickname "Aluchips") |

possible - and two beer in a restaurant. And this was a problem for us Westerners! Food and drinks were extremely cheap in the DDR, because heavily subsidised by the regime - you couldn't eat that much to get rid off the shitty money (take it over the border was illegal and also pointless). Delicatessen, as chocolade, coffee and so was extremely expensive and in bad quality, so also pointless. Most Westerners bought books and music discs there - but that was mostly shitty communist's junk, so a waste of money, too. A visit in the DDR was a full bunch of annoyances and nuisances - but unbelievable bizarre, freaky and fascinating anyways. So sad, that these times are gone ![]() |
