Uh-oh, even Aveling Austin. Aveling Barfords' first Motor Grader was the 99H, a 4X4 built under licence from Austin Western in 1950. They were marketed as Aveling Austin and this name was cast into the rad cowl. They differed from their Austin Western counterparts mainly because a Leyland 450 engine was fitted to the A-B machines. They used a couple of these when the by-pass to my village was built in the early 60s. We kids had great fun crawling over them and the mechanical navvy at night when the operators had gone. We didn’t manage to get one going though. |
