One of the cars in the car park outside the Wernham Hogg building. Can't tell whether it's a One or Cooper. It does have a single exhaust. |

Cooper - white roof/mirrors are not offered for One. |

I find I see more Mini Coopers around than Mini Ones, I guess people prefer to go for the more sporty Cooper at a few grand extra, not that it's that quick, the Cooper S is the fastest. I'm not sure if I'd have a Mini myself, they're stylish but not cheap for a supermini-class car, I certainly wouldn't fork out for one new! -- Last edit: 2007-10-03 22:51:46 |

New Mini Cooper is interesting when you compare its performances with its price. It is one of those that my father has in its list "if he has to replace his Peugeot 106 Rallye" (along with the Citroën C2 VTS and the new Smart Fortwo 85hp for example). The normal new Mini (One) is more just a hype thing like the New Beetle, I guess. |

Well the new Mini in general kind of cashes in on the image of the original car the same way the New Beetle did (much like the way they remake classic films because they know people will recognize them), but to me it's nothing like the old Mini because it's so much bigger (the very small size of the old Mini made it special, no modern car probably handles in quite the same way). Still it's more desirable than most other small cars. But the Cooper is probably the one worth choosing over the One, I think it's only about £2000 extra, not a huge amount for a car that will cost £12000 anyway. -- Last edit: 2007-10-04 15:45:34 |

In fact I think there's a tendency for enthusiasts for the old Mini to be a bit sniffy about the MINI (BMW apparently insist on upper-case). Years ago I had two of the original, and the MINI seems positively bloated to me. The second one, a 1963 Mini-Minor, I had lowered and fitted with all sorts of accessories - including Pirelli Cinturatos. The motor was bog-standard except for the (obligatory) straight-through exhaust and Austin-Healey Sprite valve springs ... and in my experience the cornering speeds were only limited by the courage of the driver. Bear with me ... let me share with you a car I still love. -- Last edit: 2007-10-04 22:47:20 |

Most new small cars look bloated now. So many of the latest models of cars look they've used steroids and it isn't pretty. This Mini doesn't seem to have the chrome "beer can" exhaust, just a little plain one: -- Last edit: 2007-10-05 16:22:32 |
