This actual vehicle was part of MGM's movie car fleet. The A4 first went into real cab service in Sept, 1950 in California. MGM took title on Jan 30, 1956. I beleive this is the same cab in the 1956 MGM movie "A Catered Affair" the vehicle today is the only known surviving A4 in the world and currently resides in a Chicago, Illinois suburb in the hands of a Checker collector. |

Correction to my above comment. This cab originally performed taxi cab service in New York City. It was purchased by MGM's loews Inc. in January of 1956, when it was used for several exterior shots in the movie "A Catered Affair". It was then shipped to Hollywood along with a 1952 DeSoto Taxi and placed in the MGM automotive fleet maintained by the prop department. Here is the MGM Title: Link to "www.checkertaxistand.com" Today the car is under restoration. The attached picture depicts its old paint scheme of green and yellow, not the door jams: http://www.checkertaxistand.com/albums/album164/IMG_1037.sized.jpg -- Last edit: 2009-09-30 15:23:21 |
