The old pic also helps: http://pics.imcdb.org/25109/1987daimlerxj40.jpg A very conflicted car ![]() Wheels = Late XJ40 or X300 XJ6, but I don't think these are original to this car. Chrome strip and left hand badge = Daimler Right hand badge = Not fitted to Daimlers. Looks like XJ6. Daimlers had tinted rear lights and (often but maybe not always?) black bootlid panels. I think it's a rebadged Jaguar but I'm not sure whether it's a XJ6 or a Sovereign. I'd probably fudge it as a generic Jaguar XJ [XJ40] as without knowledge of the vehicle the details are too conflicted. |

That confused me too. I thought about 3.6 as a possibility, but as far as we know from previous discussions there was never a capacity badge for 3.6 or 4.0. Agree smoked rear lights on Daimlers. Black rear panels was early ones only from launch (9/86) to (7/88). So a black panel is a 3.6. No black panel could be a 3rd year 3.6, any 4.0 or a V12. Agree this one is a mess - probably lashed-up to crash. I guess it has enough window chrome to be at least a Sovereign on the ladder. The Daimler boot badge is the only visible specific Daimler element, and - if I remember old discussions correctly - unlikely in D due to agreements or understandings to avoid upsetting Daimler-Benz. So presumably Daimler-spec XJ40s were Jag-badged with whatever model name Jag Germany added to highlight it was top of the tree (above Sovereign) in D?? And this Daimler badge becomes a bootleg addition, secretly smuggled in?? |
