This the rear of the 1949 Olsmobile seen here, I believe /vehicle_131351-Oldsmobile-88-1949.html If so, this is a Club Coupe. If this is a moonshiner's car, most probably a model 88. |

I think the tag over the trunk handle gives it a Hydramatic. |

The 1949 Oldsmobile\'s added and moved there chrome and polished stainless steel around that year. The early ones had no Rocket 88 on the trunk. Then got one mid-year. Olds also moved the 88 emblems from the front finders to the rear finders. This 1949 has a standard steering wheel as found on a 1950 Olds. Also this 49 has a 1950 left front fender and door stainless and 1950 hood rocket etc. Oldsmobile did not offer a stick tranmission in the 88 that year. From other pictures. The right side of this Olds is 49-88. As with the 1951 Ford Sedan Coupe used in Thunder Road. It is made up of different year parts. I surmise that this 1949 88 coupe has a 1950 stick shift steering colume or just with 1950 standard not deluxe wheel and 1950 left front finder and door stainless. So the Olds would look like a 1950 from the left side and a 1949 from the right side. The tail lights are 1949 and only the six cyl. engine had a standard shift. So all 88\'s were Hydra-Matic. The stainless around the top of the doors and rear side windows is 1949. For the 1950 Oldsmobile\'s. The stainless was removed. In conclusion ladies and gentlman of the jury. This is a 1949 Oldsmobile 88 Coupe with 1950 parts. |
