Interesting, ostensibly a 2 door Series MM, since there appears to be no Series 2 bonnet emblem, but dating might be problematic as they didn't export the lowlight to USA, and the highlight started earlier. The join at the back of the bonnet is no help, you (I) can't see it. Imagine that, 29bhp unleashed amongst the gas guzzlers! -- Last edit: 2019-11-11 22:49:39 |

29 is less than a Beetle? |

Sidevalve engine 29bhp, OHV engine, in Series 2, 30bhp, 1200 Beetle, 34bhp. IIRC, of course. -- Last edit: 2019-11-12 03:25:47 |

US Minors started around Oct 48 with low lights, then got the raised headlights from early 49, over a year before UK (Oct 50 for 4 door at launch; Jan 51 for 2 door). Looks like chrome grille, which supports MM suggestion - became painted from March 51 during MM period. Series II was Aug 52 onwards. |

US legislation on headlights commenced at the beginning of 1949, according to Pressnell, and the lowlight design did not meet its requirements. Highlight, introduced January 1949 on North American export models, Robson, “The Cars of BMC”. The number of lowlights exported to the USA must have been vanishingly small. -- Last edit: 2019-11-12 08:18:07 |
