Yes...ish This cab style, called 'Ergomatic', was not only used for the AEC Mandator, but also for other AECs and additionally for Leyland Badger and Albion Super Clydesdale tractors. For the AECs this cab style was (if I understand it correctly) abbreviated with 'TG' or 'TGM' followed by a number which indicates the number of wheels. The name itself describes the chassis and engine combination, as far as I know. The AEC Mammoth Major TG6 & TG8 are six and eight wheel chassis trucks and tractors. http://aec.fotopic.net/p3610060.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p2501630.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p38910282.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p23399356.html The AEC Mandator TG4 is a four wheel tractor. http://aec.fotopic.net/p43981060.html The AEC Marshal TGM6 is a six wheel truck. http://aec.fotopic.net/p4874230.html The AEC Mercury TGM4 is a four wheel truck or tractor. http://aec.fotopic.net/p42369493.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p34498118.html As the AEC badge is clearly visible, but the name is not we have either an AEC Mandator TG4 or an AEC Mercury TGM4. I cannot say if it is possible to keep those two apart but by the name badge. Looking at internet sources it seems there were more Mandator than Mercury ... therefore I would go along with Chris' suggestion. |

This was one of the last Mandators that Godfrey (Crook) operated, only followed by a 1969 model. After this, the fleet was almost totally populated by Mk II Silver Knights & Borderers. One of which was subsequently modified into a 6x2 tipper. Godfrey then switched to Mercedes Benz SK models during the seventies, before plant-hire and haulage ceased in the eighties. G B Crook now lives in Crossens and is principally a land-owner and property developer - currently working on plans for a 18-hole golf course in West Lancashire. |

Nice to see that people are still interested in Dad's wagons! All happened before I was born! Marky04 is nearly right - no golf course that I know of, but he's still in West Lancs! If anyone has any other pictures of his fleet please get in touch. |
