This picture shows most likely this vehicle:![]() It is a Magirus-Deutz S 6500 (1951-55). The planet names came into use only around 1955 when this version was superseded by the S 7500 Jupiter. There are not so many round-nosed Magirus in preservation apart from fire engines, and the roof mounted lights, the canvas and the colour make it unique. |

Nice find, Alexander! I'm not really a truck-lover, but these Magirus 'Rundhaber' are very interesting, indeed. I remmber the strange sound of the air-cooled diesel engine. |

@DynaMike: yes, the "Rundhauber" had a great sound, but this one is the ultimate hammersound for trucks: Link to "www.autobild.de" An aircooled 8.7-liter-6 cylinder-two-stroke-diesel - what shall be more? By driving through the night, you could wake up whole villages - just by using the engine-brake (with the anti-pressure in the exhaust). I grew up close to the town of Hannover. Every 1st of May annother great sound had woke me up: /vehicle_129187-Lanz-Bulldog.html At that day was(is?) an oldtimer- and tractor-meeting at the former Hanomag-factory. The Lanz-guys from the next villages always have passed our house. -- Last edit: 2007-10-17 19:55:16 |
