In Russia, Lada are (were) not named as Lada, but as VAZ Jiguli ...LADA was the brand for exportation only. So as we have a russian model here, we should name as VAZ 2101 Jiguli |

Hmmm we would have to rename most of the Lada then? |

Not at all, as Lada is brand name for export, any seen in a western country should keep LADA name, but in former East country area, you'll always hear of Jiguli and never Lada! |

I understand, but that's a fact, the exact company name of these Lada were VAZ. |

They sold as VAZ in Sweden during the seventies, around 1980 somewhere the name changed to Lada even here. The 2101 was called VAZ 1200, and the 2103 VAZ 1500S. Yet another exception from the rule ![]() |

In France the 2101, 2102 ,2103 were named 1200, 1200 Combi, 1500 under LADA brand. So, to be logical, I think we should change to VAZ any russian 21xx... |

2101 is the series and can be used for all models that start by "2101". 21011 is the 1974-1981 1.3L version of the 2101, called Lada 1300 for export. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AutoVAZ -- Last edit: 2005-12-28 13:36:29 |
