 I've been wondering about the plate here. 250 SE (as clearly written on the back - thumb 3) was produced between 1965-68, but the plate says 1971 :??:

 next to plate some other details indicating this is not a 250 SE:
non swan neck 1968+ mirrors inside and outside, wonder if steering column is newer as well, headrests single piece hubcaps wider plastic grille mash is inadequate, too.
Conclusion: british understatement late 280 SE for me.
the longer looking at it the more comes unreveiled...

Agree the rear badge, and the grille is not wide enough for a 280SE 3.5. So some witchcraft - the 3rd thumb with the 250 SE badge looks as if the SVE plate is screwed over an earlier non-reflective plate?? 250 SE dates here were Aug 65 to Jan 68.

 only the W111 Cabrio/Coupé had the wider grille, so this could be a 280 SE 3.5 indeed, have we original sound bits of the V8 ?

the V8 makes a sound like toc toc toc a bit like a Diesel coming from camshaft drive while the inline R6 is like a turbine no valves to hear

 I've just watched the scene again, and yes it sounded like a V8 to me. So 280 SE 3.5 then?

 Just came across a 1971 300SEL 3.5 same color at an online auction smelling the same despite the fact it is longer and has more chrome etc.
