From the script on the side of the hood, I believe this is a very rare 1939 Mercury 8 convertible. 1939 was the first year of the Mercury brand, IIRC. |

It is a Mercury Eight Convertible Coupe 76 but a 1940 one , Series O9 A ,not a 1939 series 99 :the script on the side of the hood is 1940 .In 1939 Mercurys had a small rectangular script on the side of the hood between the beltline strip extending from the front of the hood rearwards and a smaller lower parrallel strip extending rearwards to about half front fenders line height .1940 Mercurys had a free standing script as on this one and no smaller lower parallel strip. So it is not a first but a second Mercury production year. This car is equipped with the optional front bumper end guards. |
