Probably the same car as this one : At first I believed it could be a Lancia Aprilia, but its shapes are too rounded, and the front grille is very different. -- Last edit: 2020-06-28 11:21:57 |

1939 and 1940 "6C 2500 Tourismo 5 Posti" |

It also looks l'île a Riley RMB or a Mercedes 170 but the grille is very specific. Could be a car heavily modified during WWII. -- Last edit: 2020-06-28 11:23:09 |

Hi both. This is probably the 1940 Alfa-Romeo, thanks. The action of the film is concentrated in Milano so this is the most probable solution. I didn't known this model that looks like a Traction Avant (ans seems unibody). |

How could a Riley RMB, introduced in 1946, have been heavily modified during WW2? |

I know that my English is not excellent but I haven't exactly said "This is a Riley 1946 modified during WWII..." -- Last edit: 2020-06-28 12:44:22 |

You made that inference by saying it looked like a Riley RMB, followed by “Could have been.....” It also does not have a leathercloth roof, a split windscreen or faired in headlights. You do, however, manage far better in my language than I could in yours. |

It would have been unlikely (but not impossible) to have a pre-war British car in Italy, given the poltical context, anyway. I also hesitated for the (quite rare) Fiat 2800 that is very similarly looking to a Studebaker Dictator (sic). There are a lot of interresting Italian and American cars in this little-known (but good, although "I Una Donna libera" is better) film from the first "neo-realistic" part of Vittorio Cottafavi's career. I haven't published them all. -- Last edit: 2020-06-28 13:45:38 |

From what we can see here actually a swb car (these went with the more potent Sport engine) so a 1939-45 Sport Berlina. 5 or 6-7 posti were designations for the lwb cars which had the 'basic' Turismo engines. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_6C#La_6C_2500 |
