Not sure how to split 1500 and 1800 unless you can see if bonnet has bulge. But I wonder if serious exports started with 1800??

Only the 1500 was imported ans in 1970 only. That year was the very first year for any official passenger cars imports fron Japan in Italy and only 2000 were allowed pro year till the late 80s. This was rumored (quite understandably) as a political move strongly desired by an importan Itatalian car maker....
To achieve this a sort of ecception was granted to Italy inside the European Common Market. Remember it was NOT a Free trade association (as N.A.F.T.A. is and this means only additional import taxation on goods made in the country part of the agreement but evrybody is free to behave as it wants with goods coming from other countries outside the market).
It was rather a Duty Union (so a commn tax was for instance imposed on cinese goods for instance).
This aspect made UK unwilling to join it at the very beginning since UK was involved in the Commonwealth and entering in the European Common market wouls have meant to tax Australian, South African, Canadian, Indian goods etc.
Much later UK changed position but this had different motivations.
Some speculations claim that De Gaulle strongly wanted UK outside the Common market and insisted to achieve a Union instead than an association...
Who knows...
