The old "long-nose" Mercedes trucks were built in Teheran on license until the late 1990s. I would say it's a little bit too large for being of the L9 or 11 series. |

Interesting to see this one. It is not one of the original Mercedes-Benz short nose L-Series. The mid size L-Series ranged from L710 to L1513 (most common were 911 and 1113) and was produced between 1959-85. The heavy size L-Series ranged from L1418 to L2624 produced between 1959-88. The one in the picture is certainly based on the heavy version, but is has a different, more modern cab. The original cabs were as wide as the engine hood, this one is about 15 to 20 cm wider. Also the roof and the doors are different. The wheel rims are Trilex type, which were not used on the original L-Series. Now we have to search for the correct name of this Iranian MB truck. |

Mercedes-Benz 1924, produced by the Iran Khodro Diesel company of Iran Khodro Industrial Group. http://www.ikco.com/oldikco/products/1924.asp (they use the picture of a dumper like this one there) Other possibilities: 2624. |

Found it! This truck is being produced by Iran Khodro Diesel -- short IKD -- under licence of Mercedes-Benz. It is the model L2624, which is, interesting to note, now being classified as a medium truck. The company started as 'Khavar' and changed the name to 'IKD' sometime before 2001. Until we know for sure I will use 'IKD' as make. |

Oh, a bit of cross posting, again. Here is a link showing the L2624 still with the old Khavar name: http://www.ikd-co.com/products/l2624.htm As in the film it is a 6x4 it should be the L2624. |

Yes, i think so. it is the same by BMW build in Malaysia: http://www.autobavaria.com/webtoolz/article-238 BMW 530d and is not a 'Sime Darby Bhd 530d' or a 'Auto Malaysia 530d' -- Last edit: 2005-12-05 15:24:42 |

No, I don't think so. BMW Malaysia is a 51:49 joint venture between BMW AG and Sime Darby Bhd. (quote from the above mentioned web page) IKD is a 100% state owned company that builds the Mercedes-Benz under licence. As the picture shows it is a vehicle that was never build or offered by Mercedes-Benz. We have the same situation with Seat, Lada, Polski-Fiat (Fiat licenced), Santana (Land-Rover), Dixi, BWM-Dixi, Rosengart (Austin) and many others. For me this is the IKD L2624 or the earlier Khavar 2624L. |

But this vehicles have all another Logo and brandname. The Iran Mercedes have the Mercedes Star Logo and the blue MB button on the front and only Mercedes vehicles authorized are allowed to use this logo and name. The parts: On http://www.ikd-co.com/products/l2624.htm we can see the engine is oiginal MB OM 355 (MercedesBenz Oel Motor), the Gearbox original ZF (Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen) and i Think a lot of parts too. -- Last edit: 2005-12-05 15:29:51 |
