Production of the Model Y began in August 1932 in Dagenham, the first prototype (Model 19/0001) was built at Dearborn between October 1931 and February 1932. Dagenham commenced production of Commercial vehicles and some Model A cars in October 1931, Ford closing Trafford Park in December 1931. The Model 19, now called the Model Y, was scheduled to commence build at Dagenham in May 1932, but ran late. The first prototype (19/0001) was registered in U.K. on 15th April 1932, Essex registration number EV5689, the car was displayed unregistered at the Royal Albert Hall on 18 February 1932 to a Ford Dealer’s conference. Chronology:- October 1932, Separate lamps on front wings, button release on handbrake, water runaway fitted to roof sides. November 1932, Burman steering Engine number Y3975. October 1933, Model face lifted for 34. Long radiator, valances on wings, curved front bumper, winder for windscreen moved etc etc. Engine number Y37291. June 1934, Combined head and side lamps with chrome rims. Engine number Y66857. November 1934, Chrome centre strip down bonnet. Engine number Y85348. August 1937, Production ended, Engine number Y199333. 7Y production commenced. Data from "Ford Popular and the small side valves" - Dave Turner - Osprey publishing. Number plates are not always reliable, it’s best to look carefully at what is presented and the subject car displays many characteristics of very early production, notwithstanding its numberplate. The numberplate may read CG 3982, County Council of Southampton (later Hampshire) commenced at CG 3224 on 1st January 1933. I would therefore suggest, if this is taken as correct, 1st quarter of 1933. -- Last edit: 2020-07-26 10:55:59 |
