Production of the Model Y began in August 1932 in Dagenham, the first prototype (Model 19/0001) was built at Dearborn between October 1931 and February 1932. Dagenham commenced production of Commercial vehicles and some Model A cars in October 1931, Ford closing Trafford Park in December 1931. The Model 19, now called the Model Y, was scheduled to commence build at Dagenham in May 1932, but ran late. The first prototype (19/0001) was registered in U.K. on 15th April 1932, Essex registration number EV5689, the car was displayed unregistered at the Royal Albert Hall on 18 February 1932 to a Ford Dealer’s conference. Number plates are not always reliable, it’s best to look carefully at what is presented and the subject car displays many characteristics of very early production, notwithstanding its numberplate. I did not (and do not) make an identification without research and if guesswork is involved I will say so. Please revert to my original description. -- Last edit: 2020-07-26 17:18:56 |

The numberplate may read CG 3982, County Council of Southampton (later Hampshire) commenced at CG 3224 on 1st January 1933. I would therefore suggest, if this is taken as correct, 1st quarter of 1933. -- Last edit: 2020-07-26 10:55:59 |
