I noticed many British prewar people’s cars seem to have resumed production immediately after WWII.

There were other priorities between 1939 and 1945.

Austin, Ford, Morris, Rootes, Standard and Vauxhall resumed car production immediately after WW2 with 1939 models in some cases mildly warmed over. Most of the smaller manufacturers did the same with the notable exceptions of Armstrong Siddeley and Alvis who introduced new models but still not exactly epoch marking efforts. Of the mass producers, the Austin A40 Devon/A70 Hereford, the Standard Vanguard and the Morris Minor were early out of the starting blocks, followed by the Minx, and, much later, the Consul and Zephyr.

The L model Vauxhalls were 1939 cars with new front and back ends tacked onto the prewar body shell.

For the sake of brevity, I have missed out an awful lot of stuff, like Jowett for instance.
