This was probably done by the producers so the loss wouldn't be as great, as a 1977 Lincoln Continental was still a reasonably valuable car in 1982. Which is funny because it cost roughly a million dollars to produce one episode after a certain point, no expenses were spared in many other regards. The pictures are a little fuzzy so it's hard to tell what year the car that got blown up was, but it is definitely between 1961 and 1965.
